Document Summary
A short description of the characteristics of the developmental stage. This may include physical, cognitive and psychosocial changes (what is this developmental stage all about?) Physiological changes take place as all organ systems age. Older persons" health is determined around one"s functional ability. Physiological changes in older people can also be perceived as normal as it is a side effect of aging. However, not all older people experience all physiological changes, it tends to vary from person to person. Overall, older people may deny any physiological changes however, it is nearly impossible to dodge the physiological changes which come with age. As nurses, we should be educated about these common physical changes seen in older persons to provide the right care and to provide them with any assistance in their adaptation towards the changes. Cognitive changes in the elderly are commonly related with cognitive impairment however, it is a misconception.
