Lecture : Best Summary of Research in the Humanities
Document Summary
This is my understanding of research in the humanities. I have combined my takeaways from material provided by different universities. The systematic creation of new knowledge through collecting, organizing, and analyzing data in order to reach new conclusions. The coherent and logical plan of the strategies, methods, and techniques used in a piece of research with methods as the ways of conducting research. Methodologists divide research into two main types: qualitative and quantitative. Qualitative research is about understanding the nature and quality of the phenomenon. Quantitative research is about quantified collection and analysis of data. Qualitative research overlaps with interpretive research in terms of practices. But the latter emphasizes the meaning within human action and its historical contingency, which results from the interpretation of one"s culture and the contrasting characteristics of different cultures. Interpretive research requires the suspension of one"s assumptions as much as possible to understand the situational logic and assumptions of the culture under study.
