PS260 Lecture Notes - Short-Term Memory, Echoic Memory, Sensory Memory
Document Summary
Chapter 6 - acquisition of memories and the wm system. Temporary (working) or long term: retrieval: locating the needed information and bringing it into active use. You can think of memory like a computer"s creating, storing, and opening of a file. View was first introduced in 1965 and in 1968 became known as the modal model. Memory is not just a long-term storage device; it must take in information and compute it in a way that is recognizable by your brain. Working memory is executive power needed to sort things out before any memory can be stored in the long term. Short term memory can only take in so much (limited); the fixation that you do recall must be rich enough to make it into long term memory, otherwise it will be discarded. Information first is processed by sensory memory (e. g. , visual or auditory memory)
