Module 1 - Essay Discussion
Document Summary
You try to live strictly by the moral rules contained in your religion"s moral code. The two most important rules are "be merciful" (don"t give people what they deserve) and "be just" (give people exactly what they deserve). Now suppose a man is arrested for stealing food from your house, and the police leave it up to you whether he should be prosecuted for his crime or set free. We learned how to live in a world where even the most basic necessities of life are costly. Water, food, and even holding your newborn child all come with a price. These conditions compel people to work in order to live a decent life, but some are unable to do so. There will always be a handful of people who are homeless, whether it"s due to a disability, family abandonment, or plain stubbornness.
