CLST 2102 Chapter : Report #3
Document Summary
Voter opinion and action: citizens participate in the u. s. political process in many different and varied ways. There are two major categories of political participation. One of these categories is known as conventional participation. This way of participation could be considered the one that involves the good citizens of the u. s. Examples of this form of participation include voting, persuasion of others, signing petitions, donating money, running for office, and writing letters. The other main category of participation is protest as participation or otherwise known as unconventional participation. This category of participation involves civil disobedience or activities that are legal but considered inappropriate. This is often the route that young people tend to take in political participation. Examples of this category of participation include boycotts, protests, and signing petitions. The level of political participation of americans compared to other nations is quite low when it comes to the younger generation.
