Document Summary
What is stress: direct physiological effects, body stuff. Theories and models for stress: fight or flight, system that runs off sympathetic nervous system. Psychological appraisal of stress: we appraise stress and that will help us with our experience of that stress, primary appraisal. Physiology of stress: two systems affected and cause changes through brain and body and tells body that i am stressed out, sam, hpa. Sam system: manages fight or flight response, very fast, this thing bad, me stressed out (very basic and fast, this is what stress typically equals to us. Hpa axis: remember these 3 steps that crf causes release of acth which releases cortisol, cortisol tells us this system is activated and is under stress. If you are stressed out all the time then you will have more cortisol released all the time (but you do not want this, you only want cortisol to stay for a short time)
