Document Summary

The purpose of these assignments is to apply what we learn in class to real primary immune disorders that we simply don"t have time to cover in lecture. You will be challenged to go beyond just the facts but how the use of certain diagnostics helps to illuminate which process of the immune system that are either exaggerated or missing. In looking at the results, often one can eliminate normally functioning components of the immune system which will then help drill down on the actual immune disorder. Assignment 1: defects of innate immune defenses: using the links provided on moodle, investigate a primary immune disorder that involves components of the innate immune system. Use the following as tools to gain the information needed before writing a case study. Example: flow cytometry which measure surface markers like ppr, cd4 vs. cd8 etc. tells you which cell types are present and absent and in what percentages.
