BS 161 Lecture Notes - Cellular Respiration, Mitosis, Cytosol
Document Summary
Have specific shapes if shape changes the ability to perform their function may change. Some changes do not change the ability to function, but some changes may cause them to lose or gain a function. Example enzymes, many different types but they all have to interact with another molecule and in doing so catalyze the change of that substrate or reactant into a product. For this to happen the enzyme and substrate must be a specific shape in order to interact. (if shape or structure changes, the whole process may be lost or may improve. Energy allows cells to perform all these different functions they need to do everyday. Energy originates from the sun (not a usable form for cells) photosynthetic cells transform that energy into a usable form through photosynthesis. cellular respiration transforms the energy and sugars into a more usable form, atp. Example atoms within carbon dioxide, the carbon atoms, are transformed into carbohydrates. (a transformation of matter)
