Document Summary

Obviously, there are many metaphors in the media that are used to help give the audience an understanding of what is being presented to them and get them to think about issues in a specific way. However, there are four metaphors that lule analyzes to prove his point that nbc"s content is basically revolved around just these four ideas, rather than the variety of figurative language that you would expect. He uses the coverage of the buildup to war with iraq by nbc to prove how their reporting of it was exclusively through the metaphors. Each of the four framing metaphors that lule describes in the text has its own purpose. For example, the timetable is something nbc nightly news used to refer to a current situation between two parties who are either in war or are about to be. It was used as another way of calling it a deadline for a war.
