Document Summary
Table of contents: cardiovascular risk factors 2. Other risk factors 4: risk markers 5, overall cardiovascular risk 6. Primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease 9. A risk factor is a clinical or biological element whose presence or increase statistically increases cardiovascular morbidity and mortality (appearance of symptoms or complications). It is one of the causes of cardiovascular pathology. A risk marker has no proven causal responsibility in the occurrence of cardiovascular complications. Its level increases as the disease worsens, but without influencing its evolution. When a risk factor can be eliminated or reduced, it results in a decrease in the incidence of a disease or its complications, whereas the reduction of a risk marker does not modify the evolution of a disease. Cardiovascular prevention consists of eliminating or lowering all risk factors as much as possible to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events.
