CLP 2001 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Daniel Goleman, People Skills, The Techniques
Document Summary
? by daniel goleman: high i. q. does not necessarily predict who will succeed in life, psychologists agree that that i. q. contributes only about 20% of the factors that determine success. The other 80% comes from other factors, including emotional intelligence: these are some of the (5) major qualities that make up emotional intelligence, and how they can be developed: Self-awareness (5): the ability to recognize a feeling as it happens is the keystone of emotional intelligence. Developing self-awareness requires turning in to gut feelings. Gut feelings can occur without a person being consciously aware of them. Emotional self-awareness is the building block of the next fundamental of emotional intelligence: being able to shake off a bad mood. Mood management (2): both bad and good moods spice up life and build character. We often have little control over when we are swept by emotion, but we can have some say in how long that emotion will last.
