Quickie strikes showed mass production workers they could exercise power on shop floor very similar to power that skilled workers exercised earlier. Unions and union leadership war labor board no strike pledge . New relationship btwn unions and government really cemented. During war unprecedented cooperation btwn businesses government and labor. Wanted to sustain production for slightly diff reasons. Businesses had to promise no lockouts of workers. They would try to reach a peaceful settlement of any dispute between workers and businesses. Two sides would sit down and talk through disagreements. Fdr set up a 3 part ward including reps of business, labor and public (think tank people/reps of public) Other unions both cio and afl received gov and business support. Unions helped regulate production during war by promising/trying to stop disruptive strikes. Federal gov and companies help regulate union membership. Clauses within union membership contract, when signed you had to say in union every workers.
