Psychology is a modern take on questions that have been posed by religion and philosophers to answer why people are the way they are, are people inherently good or bad, things like that. Field contains lots of different perspectives and subfields. This course is a survey of major subfields. Psychologists- scientists who study behavior and mental processes. There are lots of different types of psychologists- Social- group behavior industrial psychologist - business and effect of organizations on people. Psychologists answer their questions by basic or applied research. Predict: predict behaviors or outcomes on the basics of observed patterns. Change: use research findings to modify or change behavior (or mental processes) Nature: inherited biological factors that shape behaviors, personality, and other characteristics. Nurture: environmental factors that shape behaviors, personality, and other characteristics.
