Document Summary

Prison life: corrections includes many types of facilities and programs ranging from local jails to federal prisons. Included are diversion programs, probation programs, parole, and a host of secure institutions. Security levels: state prisons have at least three: low, medium, and maximum, the federal government operates five security levels among 122 prisons: minimum, low, medium, high, and administrative. Federal prison security level: minimum-security institutions, dormitory housing, low staff-inmate ratio, little to no perimeter fencing. Women in prison: women"s prisons are much like men"s prisons, same security features, depending on security levels such as fences, razor wire, and electronic detection system. Life in women"s prison: the culture in women"s prisons is different than that of men"s prisons, male inmates tend to be isolated, female inmates are more concerned with forming relationships with each other and staff, pseudo families. "excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted"
