TS 131 Lecture Notes - Lecture 1: Hersham And Walton Motors, Microfiber, Natural Fiber
Document Summary
List differences and similarities between each of the following natural fiber types and their manufactured fiber substitutes: Cotton and hwm rayon- hwm is an artificial fiber. It is durable, has pilling and shrink resistance and is comfortable (almost like cotton). A negative about the five is that it loses strength when wet. Cotton has poor elasticity and luster but has increased strength when wet. It also has no pilling or static issues. Wool and acrylic- wool is a natural fiber that is fairly durable, good resiliency, nice drape, heat retention, great absorbency, and is abrasion resistant. It loses strength when wet and is hard to launder because of felting and pilling. It has fair pilling resistance, good strength and resiliency. Unlike wool, acrylic has poor absorbency and heat retention. Heterogeneous fibers are prepared from two or more chemically or physically distinct components.
