A spring of spring constant k is attaced to a wall at oneendand the other end is attached to a block of mass M. The blockispulled to the right stretching the spring from itsequilibriumposition and is held in place by a taut cord. Theotherend of the cord is attached to the opposite wall. Thetensionin the cord is F T Express all algebraicanswersin terms of M, k, F T and fundamentalconstants.
a) Calculate the distance that the spring has beenstretchedfrom its equilibrium position
The cord breaks and the block initially moves to the leftandthen oscillates back and forth
b) Calculate the speed of the block when it has moved halfthedistance from its release point to its equilibriumposition
c) Calculate the time after the cord breaks until theblockfirst reaches its position furthest to the left
d) If friction were not negligible, the coeffiecient ofkineticfriction between the block and the surface isμk After the cord breaks, theblockagain initially moves to left. Calculate initialaccelerationof the block just after the cord breaks.
