A block of mass M = 0.50 kg moving with a speed V = 2.0 m/sslidesup an incline of angle θ = 37o. For each ofthefollowing situations, determine the maximum height D to whichtheblock rises. You must use energy to solvethisproblem.

a) The surface between the ramp and the block is frictionless

b) The surface between the block and the ramp has friction andthecoefficient of friction is 0.50.

c) Use energy concepts to explain why your answer to part (b)isdifferent then your answer in part (a).

d) Now a hoop with mass M = 0.50 kg and radius R = 0.20 mmovingwith a speed of 2.0 m/s rolls without slipping or sliding upthesame incline. The rotational inertia of a hoop about its centerofmass is MR2 . Determine the maximum height D thehoopreaches.

e) Use energy concepts to explain why your answer in part (d)isdifferent then your answer in part (a).
