For problem 49 of chapter 25 of Halliday and Resnick Fundamentals of Physics 8th edition, the solution says to treat both values of k as capacitors in series. I was wondering why one capacitor with two dielectrics can be treated as two capacitors in series. Can anyone give me an explanation for this?
