A thin horizontal rod of mass 0:1 kg and length 0.2 m is attachedat its midpoint to a
cylindrical vertical rod of radius 0.7 cm and mass 0.3 kg, which isfree to rotate about
its vertical axis of symmetry.
(a) Find the moment of inertia of the rotating system.
(b) A force of 10 N is applied horizontally to the free end of astring wound
around the vertical rod. Determine the resulting angularacceleration.
(c) Starting from rest, how long will it take for the horizontalrod to rotate
100 times? (If you are unable to solve (b), you may use the value =10 rad/s2.)
(d) During the time found in (c), the rod is actually only observedto rotate
90 times, with the dierence attributed to frictional torque.Determine the frictional
torque.
