A coupled spring system hangs vertically in equilibrium. The system consists of a mass m attached to a spring w/ constant k. To this mass another identical spring/mass is attached. Calculate the characteristic frequencies for 1-D vertical oscillations and compare with the frequencies when one or the other of the masses is held fixed while the other oscillates. Ignore gravity.
