"During in-class discussion of wave transmission and reflection at a point of attachment between two strings of different masses, we observed that taking the mass density of the second string (mu2) to be infinitely large reproduced the effects of wave reflection from a fixed end of the string. Namely, we have shown that the reflected wave is an inverted image of the incident wave (Yr = -Yi). Can you think of a situation where two attached strings would reproduce the results of wave reflection by a string with a free end (Upright reflected wave, Yr = Yi)?
