The gravitational force on a body located at distance R from thecenter of a uniform spherical mass is due solely on the mass lyingat distance r<=R, measured from the center of the sphere. Thismass exerts a force as if it were a point mass at the origin.

Use the above result to show that if you drill a hole throughthe eargh and then fall in, you will execute simple harmonic motionabout the earth's center. Find the time it takes you to return toyour point of departure and show that this is the time needed for asatellite to circle the earth in a low orbit r≈R. Treat the earthas a uniformly dense sphere, and you must neglect all friction andany effects due to the earth's rotation.

I know harmonic motion is x=Acos(ωt), but I can't seem to relateit to gravitational force or show how the time is the same for asatellite.
