Document Summary

Beyond election video **important for understanding pateman article** Gov"ts should know that when resources are scarce, the delegation of the resources should rest with the people, not some guys in a office. Democracy must be economic as well as political. Elite democratic response to participatory model: majority is not better able to judge the general well-being better than political and technical experts, giving the masses the power will undermine the pursuit of general welfare. Participatory sesponse to the elite model: masses are not apathetic by nature, it is the existing models that make them so. There is no meaningful opportunity for participation: even an altruistic political elite will end up substituting its own self-interest for the general welfare because they can"t represent someone else"s interests. Nobody can represent someone with a fundamentally different life experience. If you are not at the table, your views will not be represented.
