Document Summary

Person centered therapy: emphasizes providing a supportive emotional climate for clients, who play a major role in determining the pace and direction of therapy. It is the client who knows what hurts, what directions to go, what problems are crucial, what experiences have been deeply buried. It began to occur to me that unless i had a need to demonstrate my own cleverness, i got them to think for themselves. Person-centered therapy aims to help clients to: realize they don"t always have to please others or win acceptance. Overall theme: respect their own feelings and values. Listen to themselves, who they really are: restructure their self-concept to correspond better with reality. To reduce anxiety, rogers believed that it is necessary to restructure and how they think of themselves so it is more in tune with reality: ultimately foster self-acceptance and personal growth.
