Maturation of alveoli, proliferation of ductal system, increase in size/weight of breast: stage 2. Transition from colostrum to mature milk: stage 3. Proper attachment of infant to the breast for feeding: positioning. Feedings shorter than 10 min or longer than 40 minutes may be indicator of poor feeding: pumping, evaluation of nourishment. All newborns are expected to lose weight during first few days.
