India population 1. 1 billion and growing, mumbai holds 10 million people, slums cover 6% of land but hold 60% of people (6 million) People who are living on whatever land they can find. Slum dwellers have no legal title to the land so they live in constant fear. Slums in central mumbai are now on some of the most valuable land in india. Entrepreneurs can have land for free if they promise to build slums for people that they force out. Goal to get mumbai slum free by 2020. Brazil rio population is 12 million. Favelas 1/3 of the cities population lives here, these are established illegal developments. Technically against the law, build a house then sell the roof to a new family and then they do the same thing (up to 8 stories)
