Document Summary

Responsible for higher level mental abilities (learning, thinking, remembering) Two halves, called cerebral hemispheres connected through corpus callosum: the cerebral cortex. Used to define regions of the four lobes. Occipital, parietal, temporal, and frontal: occipital lobe. Contains the somatosensory cortex: receives sensory information from opposite side of the body, temporal lobe. Contains the primary auditory cortex: frontal lobe. Contains movement on opposite side of body of over 600 voluntary muscles. Refers to the fact that each hemisphere of the brain preforms somewhat different actions. Right visual field is processed in the left hemisphere. Left visual field is processed in the right hemisphere: spilt brain experiments. Patients with a severed corpus callosum are studied. Picture is only visible in one visual field. If present to right visual field, picture can be named and describes. If present to the left visual field, picture cant be named or described, but can point to the picture they just saw with their left hand.
