The large the sample size, the greater the power. The larger the significance test, the greater the power. The larger the discrepancy between the hypothesized value and the true value, the greater the power. When h0 is false, power = 1 where = p(type ii error) It is impossible to calculate the actual power of the test since we don"t know the true values of the population characteristics. Can estimate power at a selected alternative value if we want to know if power is high or low if that alternative value is true. Calculated post hoc (i. e. , after hyp test performed).
