Blood pressure decreases from aorta to vena cava. Velocity lowers from aorta to capillaries, then increases to vena cava. Arterioles have large impact on directing flow to various capillary beds per their needs. Metarterioles act as bypass channels and regulate flow into capillary beds. Vessel components endothelial cells, collagen, elastin, vasa vasorum (vessels of vessels), smooth muscle cells, nerve fibers. Biggest drop in blood flow at arteriole level. When cross-sectional area is high, velocity is low and vice versa. Blood vol: 7 9% of body weight. Post capillary resistance has to do with venules.
