Chapter 4: reviewing the scholarly literature and planning a study. Found in college and university libraries, and rarely found anywhere else. 1: easy to locate an article because it is assigned a date, volume number and issue number, citation: details such as author, title, and page number as well as the journals date, issue number and volume number. Used in bibliographies: abstracts: short summaries on the first page of the article or grouped together at the beginning of the issue. Policy reports and presented papers: papers can be listed in indexes or abstract services. Define and refine a topic: a literature review should begin with a clearly defined, well focused research question and plan. Locate research reports: use multiple search strategies, articles in scholarly articles. Abstracts do not give you all the findings and details of a research project.
