Document Summary

Instead of doubting each of his opinions individually, he will simply doubt the foundation on which all his opinions have been founded: descartes is demolishing the building of his beliefs, and starting again with a new foundation (more certainty, once you break down the foundations, you demolish the whole building, descartes is going to target his basic beliefs with doubt and consider all options including having no senses and the evil demon deceiving him, the meditator has considered everything that is true, through his senses but the senses can sometimes deceive us (far away objects or dreaming, by doubting everything, an evil demon will not be able to deceive him or coax him into falsehood, these doubts must be considered rational in order to maintain his future arguments, radicle doubt will therefore rule out any doubt from the positive claims in the next meditations (right now there is no certainty)
