Horizontal network: forming community within your community, relationships such as schools. Vertical network: centered outside of your immediate community. Weak ties: relationships that don"t have emotional ties. Some would say it"s more important because relationships don"t get in the way of productivity. Mechanical solidarity: amish community, a community where the way of life is very same from one day to the next. Community is self-contained and doesn"t need a lot of interaction from the outside. Organic solidarity: more urban, industrialized community where people have specialized skills and depend on one another to survive. Community"s thrive on every person being able to fill a niche.
