There are two interesting things that are happening in the byzantine period, 13th century there is a conservatism that is occurring that artists are trying to get away from, and having to conform with. Gothic picture with linear architecture and elaborate colours. Many of these artworks are about political stature. Enunciation picture are ones that involve gabriel telling mary her fate. It is important when you get public spaces, that they are decorated with propaganda themes. It is a fresco mural informing you of what happens in a public space when things go right/wrong. There is important interaction between the people, the cityscape and the landscape. The people are larger to show what you should be focusing on.
