Being able to read is an important foundation not only for school based learning, but also for productive and fulfilling participation in society . Research suggests that the teaching of reading is most effective when there is a balanced focus on the development of children"s oral language, phonological awareness, phonic and orthographic knowledge, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension. Zpd & zad relate to what we find out about the students we teach. These aspects relate to how we organise our teaching. Helps children predict what will happen in other stores, helps children write and tell their own stores. Effective reading instruction attends to the development of children"s oral language, phonological awareness, phonics knowledge, vocabulary, fluency and comprehension in an explicit and balanced way.
