Due to conditioning effect, don"t need active drug itself. Just need the things we associate the drug to to yield drug effects. Negative side effects that happen although not inherent effects. 4 possible pathways for placebo and nocebo. = is anxiety provoking (or depression etc) Then start exercise by looking out for what makes it enjoyable to confirm expectancy. Self fulfilling, change behavior in accordance to expectations to make exercise more fun eg. physiological adaptations: Eg. research on pain, if rubbed cream on skin after been burned but used inert and told reduced pain. = research shown that expectancy changes neuro activity and pain regions in brain.
