CULTRAINING is an organisation based in Perth that has created a new training concept
for those who want to interact more consciously and effectively with other cultures. In order
to acquire knowledge, insight and inspiration for a specific cultural context, the organisation
organises trips to new economies such as China, India, Vietnam, and United Arab Emirates
that are currently being explored by West Australian MNCs as business locations.
Participating in these training exercises, people should become acquainted with the
culture in terms of living and working in each of these contexts.
The organisation offers a multifaceted training programme, including formal and
informal encounters, introductions to the history of the country and its business context,
visits to tourist highlights and remarkable projects and food experiences. Because of its
local embeddedness, the organisation promises to guide participants outside locations
not often visited by tourists.
Besides a cultural training programme, participation in these training episodes also
provides access to local business network contacts. Upon their return, they were asked
to fill in a feedback form.
The feedback received from the participants consisted of some positive and
negative responses.
a. We learnt how others lived and worked. Great experience.
b. I will have difficulties in picking up businesses to be conducted in the context
of cultural diversity.
c. Communication can be an issue between countries especially when they don’t
speak the language.
d. Uncertainty of how local employees will react to an expatriate.
