Foundations*of*movement*skills*
An#understanding#of#motor#development#is#important#in#order#for#teachers#to#
provide#a#developmentally#appropriate#PE#curriculum#in#which#children’s#skill#levels#
improve.#Motor#skills#and#later#movement#skills,#do#not#simply#occur#with#
maturation.#FMS#are#movement#patterns#that#involve#different#body#parts.##
§ Early'movement:#movement#begins#in#the#utero#with#sub#cortically#controlled#
reflexive#movements.#These#early#foetal#reflexive#movements#are#present#in#
order#to#ensure#survival#within#the#uterus,#provide#practice#for#movements#

We teach fundamental skills (foundation movements) as precursors for all games, sports, recreation, and dance. We then combine a number of skills to be used in games as well as develop some basic strategies and tactics. We can then move on to more complex games and where suitable, sports. Motor skills & later movement skills, don"t simply occur with maturation. A developmental approach to physical education means that skills are taught using a spiral curriculum: justify the importance in teaching fms in primary school; Each time we move in an organised manner, brain activation and integration occurs and the door to learning is open. An understanding of motor development is important in order for teachers to provide a developmentally appropriate pe curriculum in which children"s skill levels improve.
