What are 3 pros and 3 cons of functional foods. Functional foods are food that have added nutrients or compound for a specific function. They contain their own nutrients already but is either being concentrated or added extra compound or both to provide a specific function for optimal health. Benefits of functional foods are preventing deficiency especially to elderly whose appetite loss and every mouthful count. Second, functional foods have their nutrients being enhanced so we ensure ourselves having that particular type of nutrient. Third, functional food provide the synergy of food so we get extra health benefit other than just the nutrition found in food itself. Cons will be it become heavily used as marketing tool that makes consume unnecessary extra nutrients. It can also lead to toxicity since everything too much will be toxic. Superfoods are food that are found high in certain type of nutrients and are believed to have cause health benefits to out bodies.
