The social determinants of health- conditions in which people are born, grow, live, work and
age.
Risk factors- any attribute, characteristic or exposure of an individual that increases the
likelihood of developing a disease or injury
Prevention- Approaches and activities aimed at reducing the likelihood that a disease or
disorder will affect an individual, interrupting or slowing the progress of the disorder or
reducing disability.
Victim blaming- when an individual is held responsible for their health behaviour. They are
considered to have created their own health problems and the solution lies with them,

A health promoting school is a school that is constantly strengthening its capacity as a
healthy setting for living, learning and working.
• Key road safety messages
