Emily jane bronte (pen name: ellis bell) 1818-1848. She was born in yorkshire, she was the 5th of 6 children. The bronte daughters were allowed to study with their brothers and read all books, periodicals and newspapers. 1824: emily and 3 older sisters were sent to clergy school and the conditions at this school were unhealthy. Maria and elizabeth (two sisters) both died of tuberculosis. Charlotte and branwell would create miniature books when they were children and this continued until they were adults. Charlotte worked as one pair and emily and anne worked as another pair. The great achievement of emily and anne was a land called gondal. 1836: emily creates dated poetry (about 200 poems). 1838: became a teacher of a girls school and within 6 months, was ill again and returned home. Her post as a teacher was taken by her sister anne. The 3 sisters wanted to open a school.
