Steady state- fluctuation about the mean over moderate time intervals, changes by ve feedback. Dynamic- changes in avg conditions over long periods, -ve feedbacks. Dynamic metastable-sudden change occur when events exceed threshold, irreversible. Landscapes rapidly adjest to processes operating on them and materals of which they consist. +ve: amplify changes from initial state, any direction. Extrinsic- system pushed to limits by external factors or inputs. Intrinsic-instability results from gradual changes within system, inputs constant.
