The book is very ambiguous; for example, 5 cities mentioned in joshua were evidently destroyed during the time period, but who destroyed them is not necessarily known. 6 cities mentioned in joshua were either not destroyed at all, or destroyed before the israelites arrived. Additionally, after destroying the land, there is a continuation of culture. This is fairly incongruent with how territory is usually conquered at this time period. Jacob story unites tribal federation and creates sentiments of af nity and estrangement.
