July: genetics, there is extensive evidence for a genetic link to depression, first-degree relatives (parents, siblings, offspring) of individuals with depression have 2- Impaired negative feedback of hpa axis: dexamethacone (dex) binds to to gr receptors causing cortisol levels to go down this will not work as well on people with depression. The brain is not able to response to elevated blood cortisol by shutting down. The longer you have been untreated for depression, the lower the hippocampo volume (negative correlation). They often share biological/psychological links: anxiety disorders are often comorbid with other anxiety disorders. Many people have more than just one: approximately 50% of individuals with one anxiety disorder also have a second disorder, suicide is a surprisingly common risk with anxiety disorders. Accordingly, the body undertakes a number of adaptations that help is escape or otherwise deal with a threat of some kind: neurobiology of a panic attack. In many ways, panic attacks resemble the normal fear response.
