Average lifespan in canada is 81 years. The main cause of premature death in adulthood (before age 81) is sudden death due to heart attack or stroke. Premature death in adulthood occurs when an individual dies before the average life expectancy age. This is higher in first-nations infants as well: other factors; accidents, cancer (leukemia) prominent in one children, as well are deaths from falls in the home, accidental drowning or poisoning. For teenagers the biggest causes are car accidents, drug or alcohol related accidents: children have a poor understanding of death until age 9-10, a 3 year-old does not get what death means. Death in middle age: a much more tangible thing, chronic illnesses start to surface. More realistic and fearful, may be triggered by the death of a parent or friend.
