Personality is the relatively stable set of psychological characteristics that influences the way an individual interacts with his/her environment and how he/she thinks, feels and behaves. Personality consists of a number of dimensions and traits that are determined in a complex way be genetic predisposition and by ones long term learning history. Initially believed personality was an important factor in motivation, attitudes, performance and leadership. Dispositional approach (disposition, trait and personality -key words): stable traits or characteristics that influence their attitudes and behaviours. Situational approach: characteristics of the organizational setting influence peoples attitudes and behaviours. Rewards and punishments influence peoples feelings, attitudes and behaviour. Interactionist approach: individuals attitudes and behaviours are a function of both dispositional and situational. To predict and understand ob, one must know something about an individuals personality and the setting in which he or she works. Importance of fit: right fit for right job.
