A type of social influence in which individuals change their attitudes or behaviour to adhere to existing social norms. Factors affecting conformity: variables that determine the extent to which we will. Cohesiveness and conformity: being influenced by those we like. Cohesiveness is referred to as all the elements that bring a group of people together in a social unit. When cohesiveness is high the pressure to conform is high. Everyone knows that to get people to accept is to be like the person in some way. When cohesiveness is low, the pressure to conform is low. People may question themselves about why they should be like other people they like or interested in. One important factor that if an individual will conform or not is the degree of social pressure. Conformity and group size: why bigger is better with respect to social pressure. The number of people in the influencing group brings upon important effects on the tendency to conform.
