Ageline, probably the most respected on-line source on aging. Lack of university programs available, brings question about whether gerontology is an independent discipline. Key in making the claim that gerontology is a separate discipline; it is intrinsically holistic in its methods and goals. Multi-disciplinary in that it brings together the insights and knowledge of aging found in psychology, biology, sociology and in humanities disciplines like literature, religious studies and philosophy. Geriatrics: branch of medicine which seeks to understand as well as treat the infirmities of old age. Micro-level: changes in memory and intelligence, adjustments to retirement and widowhood.
