Augustus finished the forum of caesar in 29 bce, the building project was too long to complete while caesar was alive. Augustus also built the temple to divius iulius, situated at the eastern end of the forum romanum. Augustus built his own forum to the north of caesar"s forum. Rome welcomed more spaces that could be used for public assembly. The forum of augustus was dominated by a temple to mars ultor, mars the avenger. The result of a vow that octavian had made before the battle of phillipi in 42 bce. Temple to mars ultor had a typically roman design, column placement and height similar to that of temple to venus genetrix, also had an apse in the cella. Fragments of a state relief depicts the temple, and the design of its pediment, in miniature. Pediment featured mars in the centre, surrounded by venus and fortuna. Romulus and roma (the personification of rome) featured too.
