In the context of the transnational second wave feminism movement of the 1970s. Broadened feminist activism beyond suffrage- focusing on sexuality + reproductive rights, education rights and rights within a family. There"s more of a focus on abortion and women having autonomy over their bodies and lives, especially when it comes to reproductive organs. A magazine called the spare rib was set up, it talked about women"s own experiences and news around the world, for the time period it was radical as women weren"t meant to be interested in these sorts of things. Women are allowed to talk about feelings out in the open and in a safe environment that were previously meant/forced to be kept private. Also, encourages women to form friendships, a way to get out of the isolation of the suburbs and feel like they are also doing something for themselves, making life better for women.
