These are usually given for a short course of therapy. Examples of antibiotics commonly used are amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and metronidazole. These medications result in a reduction of hydrochloric acid. Examples include cimetidine (tagamet), ranitidine (zantac) and famotidine (pepcid).
